Julian Kainrath

Julian Kainrath was born in May 2005 in Merano, Italy. He began his violin studies at the age of six. From the age of eight to eleven he studied with Prof. Dora Schwarzberg. He is currently attending the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in the class of Prof. Boris Kuschnir.

He receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy Liechtenstein and participates in the intensive music weeks and activities held there.

At the age of ten, Julian took part in a violin competition, the Austrian young talent competition “Prima la Musica”, where he won first prize.

In July 2019, Julian was selected as a “Student in Residence” at the 26th Verbier Festival, where he performed concerts and attended master classes with renowned violinists such as Pamela Frank, Donald Weilerstein and Kristof Barati. In Verbier, Julian met violinist Marc Bouchkov, who has been his close mentor ever since.

During the 2020 pandemic, Julian was invited by Konzerthaus Wien to perform in an online concert series. Together with renowned pianist Till Fellner, he performed a Beethoven violin sonata to celebrate Beethoven’s year. Soon after, they were invited to give a recital in Eppan, Italy. In August 2020 Julian played Bach’s violin concertos with the Bolzano String Academy at the Bolzano Summer Festival. In September 2020, he was invited to the Festival Arsonore in Graz.

In July 2021, Julian was selected to be part of the violinist class of Ilya Gringolts at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy, and had the opportunity to perform a recital dedicated to Steve Reich with Gringolts. In August, he performed at the Heiligenberg Castle Summer Academy under the direction of Marc Bouchkov and was awarded a prize for his performance.

Julian gave numerous public appearances. He mastered his first performance as a soloist with orchestra at the age of ten in South America (Bolivia). Soon after, he was invited to play for the authorities of the city of Bolzano in the presence of the prefect and the mayor at an official act. In 2016 he was invited by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine to play in Kiev. That same year he returned to Bolivia to give two more concerts. In the season 2017/2018 he was invited by the Musikverein KulturKontakt in Eppan for a recital and played in the same year at the Bergerac Festival in France. In 2018 he was invited by the chamber orchestra Innstrumenti to tour North and South Tyrol. Among other venues, he played at the Haus der Musik in Innsbruck and the Kursaal in Merano, earning rave reviews. In 2019 Julian played at the concert series “Young Excellence in Concert” in Salzburg, organized by the Mozarteum University in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. That same year he played a recital in Bressanone, Italy, and participated in a RAI television program of works by Paganini and Bartok.
