For five years now, the ensemble R.E.T Chamber Brass has been dedicated to the interpretation of brass chamber music at the highest level and has made a name for itself in the scene. In addition to first prizes at national competitions such as “Prima la Musica” and “Music in Small Groups” at the federal level, the five music students from Tyrol were able to win the international brass WeJbewerb in Passau 2014 in the category of amateurs. In summer 2019, the ensemble took part in the international brass WeJbewerb “Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition” in Manchester. The five musicians impressed the internationally renowned jury chaired by Prof. Reinhold Friedrich and received the Marah Mahlowe Prize for Outstanding Performance and Presenta7on of Brass Chamber Music as winners in the final round. Furthermore, the ensemble was able to convince the jury at the selection competition “Musica Juventutis”, which allowed them to give a concert in the Schubertsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus in October. Moreover, they are on the road at concerts and events at home and abroad. They will be coached by the internationally renowned trumpeter and pedagogue Andreas Lackner (Concentus Musicus).

With their programs, the young musicians rely on a rounded package of effective arrangements and demanding original compositions, thus making the entire diversity of the instrumentation audible and tangible. A special focus is on the works of Werner Pirchner, whose wonderful music is especially close to the group’s heart. Contrary to the usual practice, the ensemble plays the genre-defining quintets of the Russian romanticist Viktor Ewald throughout on instruments of the saxhorn family, i.e. in the original instrumentation for which Ewald composed – a very special listening pleasure, in addition an absolute rarity; and that worldwide.

The members of R.E.T. Chamber Brass, all also members of the R.E.T. Brass Band, are Manuela Tanzer and Julian Ritsch on cornets and trumpets, Antonia Kapelari on E-flat alto horn, Andreas Lejnger on trombone and euphonium, and Gabriel Bramböck on tuba.
