Mykhaylo Dukhnych

Cello

Born in 1992 in Lviv, Ukraine, Mykhaylo Dukhnych received his first cello lessons at the age of eight. From the age of 15, he continued his musical studies – including composition and conducting – at the Professional Music School of the Conservatory of his hometown, graduating with honors in 2011 with a major in violoncello. He then studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (majoring in violoncello) with Prof. Florian Kitt, where he graduated with honors in June 2016 with a bachelor’s degree and in June 2019 with a master’s degree (concert subject).

In August 2016 he was awarded 1st prize at the international competition in Narni (Italy) and in 2018 he won 1st prize at the “Debelli Chamber Music Competition” with the Lviv Piano Trio. In early 2019, he recorded with his trio for ORF. In 2010, the young cellist participated in the European tour (Poland, Belgium, France) of the Lviv Junior Chamber Orchestra as the first cellist. In 2017 he participated in the theater production “Woyzeck” as a multi-instrumentalist at the Kunstuniversität Graz and in 2018/2019 at the Schauspielhaus Graz in the theater production “Lulu – Eine Mörderballade”. Mykhaylo Dukhnych performs with various chamber music formations and orchestras, and also maintains a busy concert schedule as a soloist and improviser. Since 2020 he has been playing in the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the ENSEMBLES ESPERANZA, which consists of scholarship holders of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and was awarded an “OPUS KLASSIK” in 2018.
