Marc Bouchkov’s art is characterized by expression. The closeness of the sound of the violin to the human singing voice is his main inspiration for bringing feelings and ideas to life for the listener.

The Belgian violinist of Russian ancestry is a demanding musician with an incredible aplomb, pursuing an international career with leading orchestras and conductors throughout Europe. Marc Bouchkov is one of the most multifaceted and unique artists of the new generation. His orchestral appearances include concerts with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, the hr-Sinfonieorchester under Christoph Eschenbach and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Mariss Jansons. He has also performed with the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Orchestre National de Belgique, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale RAI in Turin, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, among others. He has worked with conductors such as Stanislav Kochanovsky, Michael Sanderling, Andrey Boreyko, Dmitry Liss, Christian Arming, Lionel Bringuier, Maxim Vengerov and James Judd.

As a soloist, Marc Bouchkov has performed in numerous prestigious concert halls around the world, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Dresden’s Frauenkirche, St. Petersburg’s Concert Hall, Zurich’s Tonhalle, Munich’s Prinzregententheater, Paris’s Théâtre de la Ville, the Maison de Radio France and Berlin’s Konzerthaus. A great chamber musician, he is also a regular guest at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland.

Marc Bouchkov’s first recording on harmonia mundi is of special significance as it includes two world premieres by Eugène Ysaÿe and two original compositions.The CD was awarded a “Diapason d’Or” and a “Diapason Découverte” as well as nominated for the “ICMA 2018” and received excellent reviews at Grammophone.The English magazine called him “One to Watch”.

Recent and future highlights include concerts with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, with Nikolaj Znaider and the Brussels Philharmonic, with Stanislav Kochanovsky and the hr Symphony Orchestra, with Gábor Takács-Nagy and the Verbier Festival Orchestra, as well as recitals and concerts at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Schubertiade in Hohenems, Schloss Elmau, and in St. Petersburg, Zurich and Naples.

Marc Bouchkov’s path is lined with a number of international awards. He won the 1st prize at the “Concours musical international de Montréal” and the silver medal at the “International Tchaikovsky Competition” in Moscow. He was also awarded the “London Music Masters Award” and received the “Förderpreis für Musik” awarded by the Kulturstiftung Dortmund.

Marc Bouchkov was born into a family of musicians and received his first violin lessons from his grandfather at the age of five. He was subsequently taught by Claire Bernard and Boris Garlitsky. He studied with Mihaela Martin as a “Young Soloist” in a postgraduate course at the Kronberg Academy. Since October 2018, he has been mentored by Eduard Wulfson.

Marc Bouchkov is currently a professor at the Conservatoire royal de Liège in Belgium and a lecturer at the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein. From 2017 to 2019, he taught as an artistic assistant at Kronberg Academy in Germany.
