Hanna Shybayeva

Hanna Shybayeva was born into a family of musicians in 1979 and began her piano training at the age of six in her native Minsk, Belarus. Her international career began at the age of eleven: she won numerous prizes at competitions in Europe and the USA. Since 1999 she has been living in the Netherlands, where she also completed her “Master in Music” with highest honors at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2005.

Hanna Shybayeva has worked with numerous conductors including Moshe Atzmon, Mark Russell Smith, Yaron Traub and Neeme Jarvi. She has also received a number of awards.

She has recorded CDs for Philips Classics, Et’cetera, Teriyaki Records and Brilliant Classics with works by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Takemitsu and other composers, among others, documenting her broad repertoire. With her chamber music partner, violinist Maria Milstein, she won the “Edison Klassiek Award”, the prestigious recording award in the Netherlands, in 2015 for the CD recording “Sounds of War” with works by Jana Eek, Prokofiev and Poulenc. In 2016, she became the first classical musician to record a live LP in the “Studio Concerts” series at Bauer Studios. This concert also resulted in a CD recording under the title “Let’s dance”. Most recently, she recorded Vincent Lachner’s chamber versions of the Beethoven Piano Concertos with String Quintet on the Naxos label.

Since 2008 Hanna Shybayeva has been a member of the “New European Ensemble”, which in a very short time has become one of the most innovative and versatile ensembles for new music. She also teaches at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Düsseldorf.
