Jura Herceg was born in 1990 and received his first double bass lessons in 2006 from Dragutin Pleše at the Music School in Varaždin. From 2010 he studied at the Music University of Zagreb in the class of Mario Ivelja, where he successfully graduated in 2015. He was also a scholarship holder at the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where he participated in the intensive weeks with Roman Patkoló. He also attended master classes with Zoran Markovic, Stefano Sciascia and Dominik Greger. Among his competition successes, the 1st prize at the Croatian National Competition in 2013 should be highlighted.
As a soloist he has already performed with the Zagreb Soloists and the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra. Despite his successful solo activities, the double bassist devotes himself mainly to chamber and orchestral music. He participated in several performances of the European Union Youth Orchestra, was a member of the Croatian Baroque Ensemble and collaborated with the Zagreb Soloists, the HRT Symphony Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2016 he has been the solo double bass player in the orchestra HNK Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka at the Croatian National Theater. He is also a double bass player in the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and a member of the ENSEMBLES ESPERANZA, which consists of scholarship holders of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and was awarded an “OPUS KLASSIK” in 2018.
He has already had the opportunity to perform in prestigious European concert halls such as the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Royal Albert Hall and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He was also invited several times to the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION in Bad Ragaz.
