Dmytro Choni was born in 1993 in Kiev (Ukraine) and received his first piano lessons at the age of four with Galina Zaslavets. Later he studied in Kiev with Nina Naiditch and Prof. Yuri Kot. He is currently a student in the class of Prof. Milana Chernyavska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The young pianist is also a scholarship holder at the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where he regularly participates in the academy’s intensive weeks and activities. He attended master classes with renowned professors such as Arie Vardi, Sergei Babayan, Pavel Gililov, Klaus Hellwig, Claudio Martínez Mehner, Grigory Gruzman, Aquiles delle Vigne and Yakov Kasman.

Winner of numerous prestigious piano competitions, Dmytro Choni has already made a name for himself as a concert pianist on an international level. In 2019, he won 1st prize at the “Bösendorfer USASU International Piano Competition” in the USA and the “Prix du Piano Bern” at Interlaken Classics in Switzerland. In 2018, he was awarded 1st prize at both the world famous “XIX Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition” in Spain and the “Los Angeles International Piano Competition” in the USA, and received the “ZF Music Prize” in Germany (1st prize and audience award). In the fall of 2017, Dmytro Choni won the prestigious “Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize”, which was awarded to him at the Eppan Piano Academy. He is also a laureate of the international piano competition “The Vendome Prize” at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the international piano competition “Ferruccio Busoni” (Italy, 2017), the international piano competition “In Memory of Vladimir Horowitz” (Ukraine, 2017), the international piano competition “Roma” (1. Prize, Italy, 2017), the “Suzhou International Piano Competition” (China, 2017), the “San Marino Piano Competition” (San Marino, 2016) and the “International Piano Competition Tucumán” (1st Prize, Argentina, 2016).

Dmytro Choni’s debut album was released on the Naxos label in 2020 and features 20th century works by Debussy, Ginastera, Ligeti and Prokofiev. The CD received a “Supersonic Award” from Pizzicato magazine and was highly praised by international critics. “Dmytro Choni’s full-blooded playing [besitzt] already real greatness and a genial breath,” Remy Franck opines. David Denton writes: “[…] a young man who could be one of the outstanding pianists of the 21st century.”

Dmytro Choni has already given numerous solo recitals and chamber music concerts. He also performs regularly as a soloist with renowned orchestras, including the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Republic of San Marino Symphony Orchestra, ENSEMBLE ESPERANZA, Radio Symphony Orchestra of Spain, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and Varaædin Chamber Orchestra. He has worked with conductors such as Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Matthew Kasper, Gum Nanse, Maximino Zumalave, Yaron Traub, Francesco Ommassini, José Antonio Molina, Alain Paris, Rubén Gimeno and Volodymyr Sirenko.

Performances and engagements have taken him to Kissinger Sommer (Germany), Verbier Festival (Switzerland), Dubrovnik Summer Festival (Croatia), Festival de Granada (Spain), Stars and Rising Stars (Germany), Festival Internacional de Santander (Spain), “VP Bank Classic Festival” – formerly FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION – and Festival Olive Classic on the Croatian island of Pag. His performances at Wigmore Hall (London), Salle Cortot (Paris), Minato Mirai Hall (Yokohama), Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid) and Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires) left a lasting impression on him.

Chamber music also plays an important role in Dmytro Choni’s artistic work. He has already collaborated with renowned musicians, including Cuarteto Quiroga, Quartetto di Cremona and Calidore String Quartet, as well as violinists Andrei Bielov, Mari Samuelsen and Orest Smovzh.
