Michael A. Leitner

Composition

Michael A. Leitner, born in Innsbruck in 1998, joined the Wiltener Sängerknaben at the age of 5. During his nearly ten years of membership, he made numerous appearances as a soloist and choir member. In addition to training as a singer at the Tyrolean State Conservatory, he was taught piano, violin and saxophone at the Innsbruck Music School, the Tyrolean State Conservatory and by private teachers.

He has appeared in various theater and opera productions, including solo performances at the Bregenz Festival and the Salzburg Festival. His busy concert schedule has taken him to national and international competitions and performances. He was co-founder of the concert series “antagonisma – musik im widerstreit”, the “magarac ensemble” (2015) and the artist collective “kunstvolk” (2017).

After initially studying conducting at the Tyrolean State Conservatory, he switched to composition studies with Prof. Franz Baur, graduating with honors in 2022/23. He created works for various ensemble settings, from solo to orchestral, which were performed throughout Austria. He has premiered with renowned ensembles such as the R.E.T. Chamber Brass, the Groovin’ Tango Quintet, the Tyrolean Youth Orchestra, the ensemble Sonarkraft and Windkraft and the Tyrolean Chamber Orchestra InnStrumenti.

He also created productions for various institutions and events, including the Province of Tyrol, the Tyrolean Chamber of Pharmacists, ServusTV and the SteudlTenn Theater Festival. In addition to his work as a freelance composer and choral conductor, he teaches at a private school in Innsbruck.
