Born in 1980 in Brasov, Romania, oboist Adrian Ionut Buzac received his first oboe lessons at the age of eleven. At the age of 16 he began oboe studies with Prof. Lothar Koch at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, which he then continued with Prof. Günther Passin. He passed both the first and second diploma exams with distinction. The need to put his knowledge on as broad a basis as possible led him to further studies in instrumental and vocal pedagogy, baroque oboe, musicology, and finally to his doctoral studies. Besides his studies he attended master classes for oboe, composition and baroque oboe.
Adrian Ionut Buzac has received scholarships from the Mozarteum University, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Soros Foundation, the Herbert von Karajan Centre Berlin and the Emanuel and Sofie Fohn Scholarship Foundation. With his woodwind quintet “Penta Musica” he won scholarships from the foundation “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now”, the Gottfried von Einem Music Private Foundation, the Herbert von Karajan Center Vienna and a special prize as best wind quintet at the competition “GRADUS AD PARNASSUM” in 2004. He is also a multiple first prize winner of national and international competitions and has been promoted by eminent conductors such as Gustav Kuhn, Dennis Russell Davies and Gustavo Dudamel.
At a very young age he gained extensive orchestral experience and an immense repertoire with orchestras and ensembles such as the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Orchestra of the Tyrolean Festival Erl, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, the Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic, the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, the Symphony Orchestra Liechtenstein, the Symphony Orchestra Vorarlberg, the œnm.österreichisches ensemble für neue musik, the Ensemble Windkraft Tirol – Kapelle für Neue Musik, the Sinfonietta Montfort, the Wiener Concert-Verein, and the Mozarteum Symphony Orchestra and Wind Philharmonic Orchestra Salzburg.
Within the framework of these extensive orchestral activities, but also with his wind quintet “Penta Musica” and as a soloist, Adrian Ionut Buzac has performed in numerous renowned concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Vienna Musikverein, the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Victoria Hall Genève.
Since 2008 Adrian Ionut Buzac has been working very successfully as professor for oboe and chamber music at the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium in Feldkirch. In addition, he continues to be an internationally welcome and highly regarded soloist and orchestral musician. He is currently principal oboist of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and a member of the ENSEMBLES ESPERANZA of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein.
